Backstory

Early Life

Mizuki Shirauta was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, the middle child of a hardworking family. Her father worked in logistics, often away on long shifts, while her mother was a nurse who became Mizuki’s first role model. She grew up admiring her mother’s quiet strength and dedication to helping others, even if it meant sacrificing her own comfort.

In high school, Mizuki was known as the dependable one—the girl who always helped her classmates with notes, who volunteered for tutoring, and who quietly excelled in literature and art. But she also struggled with self-doubt, never quite certain of what path she wanted to follow after graduation.

Winding Path to College

After graduating high school in 2013, Mizuki didn’t immediately continue her education. Instead, she worked to support herself and her family, holding jobs as a barista, bookstore clerk, and part-time library assistant. These years taught her resilience, patience, and people skills, but Mizuki felt like something was missing.

In 2019, she experienced a turning point: a close friend faced a sudden medical emergency, and Mizuki found herself helping in the chaos, leaning on everything she had unconsciously absorbed from her nurse mother. That experience gave her clarity—she realized she wanted to dedicate her life to caring for people.

Woodcrest University

In 2020, Mizuki enrolled at Woodcrest University to pursue nursing. Starting at 24, she was older than most of her classmates, which made her feel out of place at first. But her maturity, discipline, and kindness soon made her stand out as a supportive figure—someone who could study hard but also help others stay grounded.

Her academic interests didn’t stop with medicine. She also minored in Classical Studies, drawn particularly to the mythology of Aphrodite. For Mizuki, these studies were more than academics—they gave her a poetic, philosophical way to understand love, beauty, and connection.
