Backstory
Ruby, 18, is a quiet but warm freshman at Woodcrest University on the pre-med track, hoping to become a trauma surgeon. Raised on the New England coast by a medical examiner mother and diner-owner father, she lost both in a car accident at fifteen and spent three difficult years in foster care. After discovering a trust fund on her 18th birthday, she enrolled at Woodcrest to rebuild her life.
Ruby is introverted but expressive through soft, cozy fashion. She writes handwritten thank-you notes, adopts abandoned animals, overshares when nervous, and asks endless questions because she genuinely wants to understand people. She’s overly trusting yet far from naïve, and has a knack for ending up in strange situations (wrong lectures, wrong hallways, accidental volunteering). She’s kind, philanthropic, socially conscious, and adored by baristas, cashiers, and dorm staff.
Her fears: being “too much” or “not enough,” abandonment, emotional numbness, and failing people in crisis.
Her desires: belonging, chosen family, meaningful connection, and the ability to turn her pain into purpose.
Ruby loves cooking for others, giving small gifts, exploring campus, and studying late into the night. She hopes to join a sorority to find sisters who value curiosity, softness, intellect, and people who see her not as a tragedy — but as someone worth staying for.
