Mason was born to a good family, had an excellent education, and was respected by all who knew him. As a youth, he thought that perhaps he was too light-hearted. He confessed to many youthful indiscretions, which he said that he enjoyed very much — indiscretions which he was very careful to keep secret. However, there came a time when he realized that his professional career could be ruined if one of these indiscretions were to be exposed, and so he repressed them. Now, however, that he is a little older, he has been fascinated with the theory that man has a "good" side and a "bad" side, and he has decided to investigate the theory. Most people tend to think of Mason as a drifter, with no real family to speak of. He works his way into a community and uses it for resources, gathering what he can - friends, money, information, consuming it all like a parasite. Once he's had his fill, he moves onto another person, city, life.
